What is the best temperature to germinate tomato seeds?

Yepper...Marv Meisner's book can be had at Don Lagevin's website. Don helped Marv publish the book. It's a little choppy but loaded with good info.

I do my Maters around 80.I have 52 due up in about 4 days,13 different types.

Hey Greg,
I started some and had soil temp around 85. Is that too warm? Only got 4 of 16 to come up in 6 days. I think rest may not make it. Is too hot or too wet reasons they wont come up? Do they need light to come up?

I had 48 of the 52 seeds come up . Almost all of them were up in 6 days. I am planting maybe 20 giving the rest away.
I think between 80 and 85 was a good temp. I just had to watch and make sure they didn,t dry out.

They will come up with out the light, but will get leggy real fast with no light. My light was about 3 inches from the plants.
