Depends on the variety and how you grow them.

I've met hothouse 'forced' tomatoes that are big, and bland. Plant the same variety and let it grow more naturally and those tomatoes were the BEST, just a quarter of the size.

I'm growing several large beefsteaks this year in trials, including the 'delicious' which is the one that has potential to go 6-8# AND supposed to taste good. I'll know in a few weeks.

Although I prefer Brandywine's & Mortgage Lifter's for taste, the Big Zac's I grow have a great taste to them & friends I give plants to love the taste of Zac's.

Brandywine Pink... those are like candy. I still miss my plant from last year, I hope the one this year does the same.... Another surprise is the Black Pearl, it does okay with heat as long as you water it enough, and use both a cage and steel fencepost to keep it up. It's a cherry, but. It does megablooms! Last year that one ramped up to 4 quarts a day per plant...

I am convinced that most any tomato will "taste good" if it is given the opportunity to develop in good soil, with adequate sun, soil moisture, beneficial biological activity in that soil, and a regular schedule of organic nutritional supplementaion.

Put that plant through any series of seasonal stresses, like drought, too much watering, or invasion and challenges from the insect world......and those tomatoes are less likely to have the flavor one wants.

There are no bad dogs.....just bad dog owners. There are no bland tomatoes.....just tomatoes that might not have had a proper up-bringing !
