I recently tilled my garden in the fall and through in some manure and leaves. I will try to grow a large pumpkin and I would also like to grow a large tomatoe. This site has been very helpful for the pumpkin part of it but I would like some info on tomatoes. What type of tomato seed am I looking for and where can I get them? Also does anyone have any good tricks to growing Tomatoes?

I believe most of us grow Big Zac or Delicious tomatoes. Zac will produce some nice big ones, but I believe that the world record (6 or 7#?) was a delicious. If you type "tomato" into the search box, you should get info and growing tips.

I grew Big-Zacs last season in the city, and they went around 3 pounds (lots of splitz though). I gave a few plants to my Dad in the country, but the deer ate all the fruit! I have a bunch of selfed seeds, but now I live in the country, and don't know if I should waste my time as there are tons of deer here. The Big Zacs tasted kinda bland and mushy....

Do you just use store bought seeds for the big zac or delicious tomatos or is there a way to send seeds through the mail like pumpkin seeds? Is tomato growing a genetic thing also?

I'm going to try some Big Zac. I got a catalogue from Totally Tomato in the mail today and with "all" the Christmas catalogues.
