This tomato wasn't going to wait for the OVGPG weigh-off in October so I had to cut it early. I didn't sign up for the county fair in time this year, so I had no where to have the fruit "officially" weighed.
The United States Dept. of Agriculture has an extension nearbye which is directed bye the Ohio State University, so I decided to call there to ask if it was possible to have the tomato weighed in the presence of a OSU AG agent.
The receptionist originaly told me that they do not do that there, so I asked her if she knew of or was there anyone I could talk to there about how to officially record State Vegetable Records, or to have as a witness to the validity of the weight of this tomato.
After talking with two others over the phone I was able to talk to someone who seemed very interested in seeing the tomato.
Once I did get there, there were five people in the room who were very exicted over the tomato.

A Very nice lady Maurreen Austin witnessed the weight and signed a paper I drew up, which is posted here at BP in my diary.
Mrs. Austin is Agricultural and Natural resources Educator at the extension. She also teaches the Master Gardeners course there.
Other witness's were:
David Crawford, County Extension Director, 4-H Youth Development
David J. Goerig, OSU Extension Educator, Director Hort, Natural Resources, and AG

Last year I won the Ohio State Record for largest tomato at the OVGPG annual weigh-off n Canfield, OH with a tomato which weighed 4.48 pounds, grown off of the variety "Church".

The tomato which was weighed yesterday was grown off of the 5.58 Timm and was "Officially" weighed in at 4.83 pounds. Provided there isn't a larger tomato in the State, which has been or will be recorded this year, this tomato should be the new Ohio State record.

:D

Congrats on the new record!!! I wanted to try and look up how you can go about finding the current records for certain veggies but i'm rather new at this giant vegetable scene and I have no idea how to go about this. Not sure how my zucchini weighs in compaired to others. I have not weighed it only measured the length and diameter on the bud end. 23" length and 15" diameter. From what I have seen it looks like have to compete with other squashes like maybe marrows and if so then I wont bother with this zuc lol. Know how you can find state records of certain species of vegetables, if even possible?

The Ohio Valley Giant Pumpkin Growers keeps track of several Giant vegetable records from Ohio. There are other Giant vegetable/pumpkin clubs which do the same for their state.
Other than that several members of PerrysGreenhouse.com have posted their and other state records on the site. One day when I find the time I will do my best to put them all together on one page.

Thank You Sambo!!
