Vote if youall would like to add colored tomato as another class same rules colored is anything thats not red or pink,i vote yes it opens things up a little. but if youall dont want it we will throw it. GOD BLESS, treetop

At our tomato weighoff we take any color. Even field. We will even take it if it's not ripe.

If you want to run a 'beauty' contest then you need color breakdowns.

Weight is what matters IMO, heh. County fair factors in perfect (beauty), our weighoff goes for 'edible' and weight!

I was just saying that those that are starting out and those that have grown different color tomatos that in no way are going to out weigh the big zac and all the other giant red and pink they would have a chance with there smaller purple or other colors that arent near the size of the giants, and i never once said anything about beauty, all i said was a different color class, si

Um... we do have two different AGE classes at our weighoff; that does help with encouraging the younger growers. We had a lot of entries around 4-5 ounces...

We also support the weighoff by handing out plants in the spring. One to a person; of the larger varieties. That is why I am working so hard on vegetative propagation of some of the larger strains I have right now. To have plants to share.

2008, our winning entry was 10.75 oz. 2009, 16.3 oz. You could still place with 8-9 oz.

This winter I have been getting asked for 'good seeds' for tomatoes; more interest than ever. Until we start seeing 32 ounces or higher so we have a large pool of good potential stock; I will continue to start flats of large varieties and offer plants to anyone that wants one. Seeds in a few years I hope. I have handed out plants that went as far as Kansas and Dallas TX.

Also weighoffs aren't free; if you could get a garden center or nursery to sponsor it; if they would fund more categories, I'd say then you could go for it. Here it's just which age category does it go in, color or not ripe doesn't matter; it gets a soundness lookover before the entry form is filled out.

No need for a headache :) I offer it may take more local support is all; to get the entries.

You bring it here you might win 'purtiest' along with 'tonnage' ... unless... the 7.18 Harps that are starting to look like trees, live up to their heritage. :)
