porterville, calif.

I bought 4 different types of Tomatoes last year from Walmart. None of them were what was labled. This year everything came from seed.

They are probably some deviation off of Delicious tomato.

Steve,

Well if you've planted "The World's largest tomato then the rest of us might as well hang it up, and not even bother to plant our Big Zac's this year!

Kilr, You haven't seen my wife gardening. Don't give up yet!

I did keep the silly coardboard thingy these "Miracles" came in. I figure when the "world's largest tomato" is the size of a grape, I'll take some photos & have a nice little "Anti Walmart" bargaining chip for my buddy around the corner who owns a real Garden Center. LOL

Last time I was at "Wally world" I was looking for a bicycle for my son. They had a large sign listing 4 makes of bikes, "Proudly made in the U.S.A. for Walmart". I had the space cadet clerk spend an hour looking for 1 bike that was made in the good ole U.S. Well, duh, she couldn't find one!

Walmart over here has a very small offer of US food products. It´s sad because I like all that original BBQ stuff. The camping section is excellent, some very innovative US products and cheap too. I don´t know why they don´t sell any of your fertilizers. But for any other kind of "competence in gardening" you can easily forget WM.

If Wally World starts in the deep South and rolls left overs North for delayed opening seasons things might be about six weeks pot bound before you knock off the pot.

Knock off the pot is more like it. One can never gently slip a plant out of a Wally World pot. :) I better be carefull what I am saying. I will soon be old enough to be a friendly Wally World Greeter.

If it goes by that name is most likelt delicious from riply's beleive it or which at least on it it's seeds pack
says it's the delious variety. As for big zac it is hybred
and you can't save seeds from it. Delicious for that matter
growes big and is very crack resistant. big zac is another matter besides Minnie Zaccaria 1997 6.1 lbs tomato.
I am unaware of any big zac that have gone bigger.
Delicious still holds the record of 7.75 lbs since 1986.
An i have bet with a freind big zac will never break the record unless delicious does it first. Long reign the king of tomatoes Delicious.

Floh, the fertilizer thing is probably due to German fertilizer laws. We produce an all brown fertilizer for Wolf-Garten (sp?) where we coat all the ingredients brown. I was told the reason is antiquated German Agriculture laws that require the brown color. Could this be true?

Thanks everyone. Sound like I should back up the current 'Maters with a few Delicious ASAP.

Steve, never heard of restrictions that fertilizers need to be brown here. Infact I even have a blue one called Nitrophoska to use at the beginning of the season.
What´s really annoying is that noone knows the benefits of seaweed, kelp, algae as fertilizers over here. You will most likely find that stuff as food. Well, I prefer something else to eat:-)

Then it must be some other European country that Wolf ships to. Is Wolf a major player in the home lawn & garden market over there? - Steve

In Germany Wolf is a major player and the most expensive too. They are known for the best grass seeds and lawn fertilizers as well as for all kinds and systems of garden tools, but a minor player for other kind of fertilizers, that´s Compo (organ. and chem.) and Neudorff (organic only). Of course Bayer, BASF for industrial supply.
