Okay. Now let me ask you this. Say, I have a big tomato. It is the end of August. How do I enter it? Marv

Just log the entry on the site. The 3 largest tomatoes as of 10/31 wins, only caveat is the same person cannot win all 3 prizes.

Will you enter?

Its pretty much the same setup as any other virtual weighoff.....thanks, Ray

Can the tomato be weighed anywhere? Can it be weighed any time during the season? Will anyone be looking at it to certify that it is indeed one tomato? The problem is that not everyone, sorry to say, is completely honest when there is a significant prize involved. For instance, a weight for a new world record hopefully will not be based on what the bathroom scale says. And two tomatoes can be disguised as one very easily. Marv

Well if anything goes through our weighoff then gets entered here, it will be one tomato no matter how fugly.

We might have to specify for a virtual that despite the on scale picture it might have to have a dissection photo to prove it was only one... good thing we have a few months yet before the seeds go in the starter mix yet, and a few months after that, to get it sorted out. :)

ok, its only 150 dollars, lets have fun with it! if someone wants to weigh in a new world record , they know what to do..... and if someone want to be dishonest, well they will have to answer to us, there is a millon ways to cheat at a game, so there is no way to prevent it, we just hope there is enough honesty left in the world, lets keep it simple and most of all have fun, RAYL: COULD YOU OFFER JUST A TROPHY , OR RIBBON, not cash, so we dont have people crying fowl!

I'll put up a ribbon for the virtual WO. Just decide what you want the center art to look like (I have a buttonmaker to make the center with, so finished art must be 2 5/8" dia and will fold over to 2 1/4" showing) and I'll run it up about Oct 1st, and mail it to the winner.

1st, 2nd and 3rd, 3 ribbons, okay?

Thanks for the responses and questions everyone.....

The tomato can be weighed anywhere and can be logged into the site at any time up until October 31st.

Great point on the 2 tomato possibility. We can all judge if the tomato is in question. I can add that to the contest rules to be clear.

The payout still stands at $250 as promised but I love the idea of a trophy or a ribbon

Okie, do you want to shoot me an email with your idea? I can also have a trophy made up to

Great questions and ideas everyone. We have a bunch of growers already entered and I will post the counts soon, although the deadline to enter is still a few months out.

Thanks

If its a world record they better get more then 1 photo more like 6 photo's & have it weighed at several places, with several witness's.Im talking ones that dont make it to a weigh-off.Its your contest Ray,so its your rules. A rosette or plaque would be nice if its in the budget.I wouldn't worry about the people who are against cash prize's. Theres only a handful of them out there. Most contest's bowling, fishing, golfing, etc.offer cash prize's.I dont know where it started but its silly, not wanting cash.

i was in a fishing club for 20 years, and in those years watched a great fishing club fall apart, reason? money, the entry fees kept rising every year , until the pay out got to several hundred dollars, thats when the cheating , fighting, and the destruction of great friendships happaned!this gardening thing should be for fun, not monetary gain, a cash prize is great! but over the years i have seen best friends torn apart over money, everyone is worried about the cheaters, the more money involved , the more cheating! and the more people complain about the rules,( as seen already, so many times), we are not farmers growing to make a living or a profit!, if someone thinks they can earn money everytime they grow something, then farming for a living is for you. AND RAY IF I PLACE IN THE CONTEST, KEEP THE MONEY, DONATE IT TO PAP OR GIVE IT TO A CHARITY FOR ME, thanks so much, scott

Thanks Marley that's nice of you.

Hopefully we can have some fun with this and weigh some big maters

At our tomato weighoff, and pumpkin weighoff, the winner gets a small pail, to go with the 'bucket of bragging rights' they just won the right to... it's a small pail, because that gets tiring too :)

If we get a WR contender crossing our scale, you bet it's going to be documented with several photos!

I think you have to let the negative people self destruct & they will. You will always have cheaters its human nature to cheat.I have 4 kids 2 will try to lie there way out of a pinch & 2 wont. They were all raised in the same God fearing house. Its just the way people roll.We need to ignore the negativity and thats real hard for me to do.& roll forward. There is nothing wrong with prize money, the bigger the better.More money brings more competition.Tighten up the rules.Have the new records inspected.Let the cheaters self-destruct.Money is not Evil, the love of money is EVIL!
The majority like winning prize money!Let the Fun begin!!
