I see the world record was grown on a plant that was over 50 feet long grown horizontally. What is the best size for a competition plant? Vertical or horizontal? Thanks!

Gordon Graham's record was truly an anomoly. Here's a short article about his feat:

As nearly as I can tell, most of the world's top growers (and I'm not one of 'em - yet...) harvest their super giant tomatoes from plants which are <6' tall, and most grow them vertically.

However, at least a couple of us here are attempting to grow some huge plants as well, to see if maybe Gordon was on to something...

I was also reading that because it was layed down and the stem, branchs that had came in contac with the soil also grew roots.
