Subject:  can you freeze your tomato for a weigh off ?

Can you use dry ice to bring your tomato to a weigh off? im just trying to have a plan B if my matoes rotted before the weigh off.

woops, dry ice , i read to fast, don't know that one, but gpc rules state no frozen maters to be weighed in....

Since freezing destroys the tomato's membranes thus it's structure the impending mush would need to be weighed in a bowl.

In other words freezing of any kind would absolutely obliterate your ticket to a trophy.

You can-however, keep it in the standard fridge side of a refrigerator, in a suitable bowl or plastic container, where it will remain quite intact for about two to three weeks in perfect condition.

Cleaned fridge out half a tomatoe in a tub a ware bowl for a month& nuthin wrong with it.didnt taste it tho

so one more thing.... if i get an official early weight can that fruit still be brought to a weigh off with that weight so i can compete with it? (if its still in one piece)

it can not be brought to a GPC weighoff
since early entry is thru the GPC.

I've recorded weights of several refrigerated tomatoes and found that they lose up to 0.5% of their weight each day, so a 4 lb. tomato could be down to 3.7 lbs. after 2 weeks in the fridge. Best to set up an official weigh-off (as per rules linked by PA_J) in advance, then clip off your big tomato and take it immediately to get it weighed.
