I have a mess of giants tomatoes in pots and I am noticing that the underside of the leaves on almost all of them are getting a purple color to them. I grew some last year but can't remember if they got like that.

Is this normal, or are they lacking a nutrient ?

It might also be that your plant needs more Phosphorus.

I agree with Marv concerning this. Tomatoes suffering from phosphorus deficiency exhibit symptoms such leaves showing purple veins or with an overall purple color.

Addendum; Just add a little diluted fertilizer and this issue should clear up.

A spray of Dunkel's will take care of it too.

When conditions are cool the phosphorous is unavailable to the plant and they show signs of P deficiency, it will go away once it warms up. I would not be really concerned.
