Maybe, just maybe, it is time for the GPC to provide a Red Jacket to the Tomato Champion each year. It could not be all that expensive to do and the champ this year, so far, certainly deserves one. More and more growers are trying for a big tomato and it is getting more and more competitive. Who will be a good advocate for a Red Jacket? And there might even be a sponsor for it somewhere?

Actually Marv I was thinking the same thing. But honestly when I looked at the field of growers out there, and how they contribute to the fast paced track the tomatoes are on, I actually had 2 possible sponsors of the Red Jacket come to mind.
The First was AnnDawn publications, because they in fact published your tomato book and the second was actually you Marv.
both very fitting to the tomato category
Just my thoughts

A red jacket would be excellent. It's dignified and places the importance of giant tomato growing in a strong light.

If a certain person would wear it, maybe a cow manure brown jacket for the best BSer could also be given consideration. I would kick in on that one too. Just my thoughts. lol Iceman, are you coming to the pumpkin convention in Pennsylvania this year? Just wondering. Jacket presentations will no doubt occur there.

If no one else wants it, I will take responsibility for getting the Red Jacket thing set up. I am going to contact Dave Stelts to see that it is okay with the GPC and to see if the jacket can be awarded at the annual convention early next year in Pennsylvania. I plan on trying to get the same person who makes the Orange Jacket make a red one. I have no idea what it will cost but I will try to get contributions for this from interested parties. Give generously when asked because I will be the one making up the difference. lol It may be a one time only event but I think a world record deserves it and certainly Dan MacCoy does.
