Hello Megakin,

Ideally you would want to see exactly what your seeing at the height the plant is at.

Of course the goal is to have the tomato grow for as long as possible thus as large as possible.

The average growth time for a large tomato taking into consideration environmental conditions, strain of tomato, weather, etc you should expect an average of approx. 35 days from visible growth of the tomato to color flash.

The mega bloom you are speaking about now will have produced the tomato prior to your competition in August.

This however should not preclude you from doing all you can in order to get a large tomato from this bloom due to the GPC having their official online contest.

I am in Valparaiso. I started my plants a few weeks ago, and still haven't put them in the ground yet. I might wait another 2 weeks? Not sure yet. I don't like the weather. With that said I like having the heat of late June, early July to help my tomatoes grow. Mine are always ready before the weigh offs. I use the Early GPC Forms.

I agree with what you said @ PA_J. I believe that the height of tomatoes varies on the brand, the environmental conditions like where you live, and also the kind of soil where you plant them. You should start planting them around early spring up to summer time.
