Been trying to find some answers on this. What do you use for your tomato plant supports? Just a stake in the ground, tomato cage or something completely different?

I use wire mesh that you use in cement. It makes a very strong cage that will not collapse and the 6"x6" square holes make it very easy to weave the plant in and out of the cage.

I like a good wooden stake, although the bigger sized colored tomato cages look nice(they should be staked also)...either way, drive the stake deep... Good luck

I only use twine and tomato clips with pruned plants to two leaders.Wife loves it ,so easy to pick no looking digging missing ones that are hidden etc.

I now like the single stake idea. When using cages in my loose soil the weight of a big tomato on one side made them want to fall over and in some cases they did. And one more problem I ran into with cages was if you get a slammer growing in the wrong spot inside the cage ,the wire from the cage itself can get in the way of the growth of the fruit. I almost had to cut the cage wire on one of mine so it wouldn't grow into it. I think next year I'll just put single stakes in before planting, so as not to mess with the roots.

I use a tomato cage and hammer in a stake beside it that I Zip Tie to the cage. It keeps everything solidly upright. A cage on its own will just fall over.

These cages are 10'feet tall and the plants are about 7'tall and i bury the cages 6"-8" deep before i plant. I have had the plants reach to the top at 10' in the past with about 40 tomatoes on them and never had a collapse or tip over.this is how i do eating tomatoes !!! I plan on doing miniture versions with my compitition plants next year.

I use Texas Tomato Cages. I have some CRW cages too.
I stake them with a fence post, sometimes for my eaters that are really loaded up I'll use 2 posts.
