Still a novice but learning. Last year I tried to set on a small plant. It took but only grew small and slow. The plant continued to grow. I set higher and it took and grew fast and big. In my opinion, if the root system and plant are in a grow a tomato mode, it will grow a large tomato. Based on good nutrients, soil temp, ect. I set one this year two weeks ago really low. It's only the size of walnut. I hope one takes a foot higher and will pick this small one. That Maccoy fellers plants were ready to rock and roll with plants set low.

i find that the biggest megablooms will come on the very first flower truss !!! that is why i plant later. i like my plants to only have no more than two true leaves on them when i put them out. this will help the plant to develope a strong root system by the time the first flowers start. i found the larger the plant is in the pot the smaller the first flower set will be and then you should wait till the second or third flower set before you set a tomato !

Thanks for the advice every one. The plant im refering to is your 4.41 Chris. Nice mega on the first truss 14 inch tall and planted extra deep. The stem on it has that I can support a monster look. I will wait for the next few sets. Im excited
to see a bloom that big already.

the 4.14 is a mega marv and was the most agressive plant that i had last year. i would try to keep it myself, i think that plant variety can suport a monster at a small size. i will go to the second and third flower set if i don't like the flowers on the first set ? good luck beezr grow a big one.

Just a dummy here, asking a question? What if you grow a long skinny plant, lay it down, tip the tip up, then is the first set that shows up, the true first set & then big? Seriously 18" of stem burried & 8" of stem out of the ground!!? Sorta thinkin lots of root growth should help? Peace, Wayne

That's what I do peacewayne...makes big root system...Plants now 12" and showing decent megas on the first trusses...I'm plucking them all off...lets the root system get a little bigger...that's here in ny though ...I think Different conditions may call for different techniques...
