wow...i see three growers that have the 6.23 started. Myself, wixom and james. I am excited. Will we see the ribbon vine to the blossom. I love the potential...a little bit more fused and the world record would be over 12 pounds. Hope Chris and James keeps posting their results in diaries.

I grew a 4 lber off a ribbon on the 7.33 hunt same year a grew the 8.41.if it was a big Zac I think it would have gone over 6.
The plant was only like 18 inches at most.
Check it out under 2014 diary.

It would be considered a big pot for indoor growing but it it is still less than what the 6.23 grew in. My 155 liter pots would be a 29 inch spacing of plants...actually less with the space between the circles. If am not mistaken....Chris grew the 6.23 with 4 ft spacing between the plants. If you take 4 ft x 4 ft x 3 ft...that would be 360 gallons or 1362 liters..am am barely at 10% of that

actually bob i only had about 2.5 feet between the plants growing on a wire mesh fence and about 3-4' between the 2 rows.
also i grew the 3.80 lbs. tomato in a 20 gallon pot !!!

Here is a picture of all 3 of my biggest tomatoes 6.13, 6.23, and 5.95 while they were still growing. plants were only 24"-30" tall.

when i fertilize i will go about 4' from the stem of the plant !!! i found that the roots will travel more than 5'-10' from the bace of the plant !!! but my plant grown in the pot was not root bound ? i do believe that you can grow a record tomato in a pot outdoors, but you need to use watering on a timer, consistent watering and feeding. keeping a plant hydrated properly in a pot is harder than in open ground.

2.5 x 3.5 x 2 ft deep is still 17.5 cu ft= 131 gallons...my indoors is still 31% of outdoor grow as far as available soil. I am guessing on depth. If the addition of UV-B light solves the riddle of intumescence i will be concentrating on physiological leaf roll. I noticed in your diary entry of 261579 that the plants are showing signs of plr. I know porkchop calls this slammer syndrome. Obviously our soils are very high in nutrients which is considered one of the causes. We don't want to reduce that in the effort to grow the largest. Another cause is the combination of hot and dry. Indoors i am struggling to keep my humidity level above 50 rh. The room also tends to run about 90 degrees with the lights on. I am thinking that the plant expended energy to form these leaves..and with them rolling it is lost energy. This weekend, i am experimenting with manually misting the leaves every hour. If this improves the PLR, then I will look into a timed misting system. Reverse Osmosis unit is going to be delivered on wednesday. Indoor irrigation is my next focus.

i found that leaf curle to be a good sign ! it usually happened with good feeding and heavy pruning causing the leaves to thicken up and curle ! after that the leaf stems would start growing suckers on them.

I will agree that slammers can be grown on plants with PLR. It might be with the leaves thickening and rolling to avoid moisture loss that more is available for the flower. But with the lack of foliage that I am usually working with on my indoor plants, i have to wonder if the reduced photosynthesis actually working against growing bigger. So far this morning..as I have misted..I have noticed the leaves unrolling. Some year I might find the perfect combination.

it has gotten bigger James. The plant has gone somewhat strange though. The main vine ribboned just before the blossom into 4....3 vines and the blossom. I trimmed off one of the vines..and am watching the other two to see what they do. I might end up with a tomato set at the top of the stem...all growth terminated. Saturday will be my weekly diary update on this plant.
