wixom....i think that the variety is still in doubt....read the next post....i am contending that no one know the true variety of what they are growing. Female and Male are important...

This looks good Chris. If I had administrative access to the site I would change it today. How else would we keep track of your awesome crosses? Looking forward to your next one.

Though the GPC can be used to assist keeping track of genetics in the weigh-off entries, I don't believe we should expect them to be the keeper of genetics. Something like pumpkin fanatics, or the ol' AGGC, would provide interested growers to upload as much info as desired. The grower could upload as many tomatoes that they wanted to then. Also, growers could help by putting the info they know on the seed packets.

A person going to the GPC tomato site should be able to accurately track back a seed many generations. Many of the top tomatoes can be easily tracked. Should parallel big pumpkins. For the relatively few that are into tomatoes the GPC site is the "go to" place for this. Better education in local clubs would help with proper documentation.

I think we need to consider quantity also. I am limited by space to growing 2 AG pumpkins at home. With my indoor setup, I could potentially grow 24 tomato plants indoors and be able to grow 4 seasons per year. Add to it the twenty plants outside I might have during summer. That is 116 plants per year. I do not think that the GPC should be responsible for the tracking of all these plants for me.
The tomato tracking website is tomato.giantstogrow.com

I just added the 3.77 WixomSlammer that I grew last summer. Chris..I had to put down something for the first wixomslammer seed...I used .1 Konieczny 2016. I also had to use "not listed" for variety.

Rick, your 4.24 WixomSlammer progeny is not listed...easy to add, i have one of your seeds in hydro right now.

I just added it, thanks. There are some logistical issues with adding or modifying entries on this site I have found. It wouldn't let me put "Wixom Slammer" as a seed. I put down what you put down as 1 Konieczny 2015 and it worked.

i just checked your entry Rick.. we dont have it good yet. You used 1 konieczny and i used .1 konieczny they dont link together as progeny. I also see yours is listed as variety 'Belmonte" and mine list variety as "not listed". I was looking at chris's diary entry with the family chart of the crosses...does that say .9 oz in that case maybe we should make it .06 Konieczny 2016. He also does not have his 4.8 wixom slammer in the database. I have one of those still in hydro also. Nearly every other 1st generation wixom slammer seed is not in the database. 4.53 Terry is there..but it is basically all unknown info. 4.91 Porkchop , 3.08 Qualley, 5.7 Sutherland...all not in there

all right..we have an exact number for the wixomslammer .... 9.6 oz equals 0.60

i am modifying my 3.77 entry to that number

I modified my entry...and I took the liberty to modify yours Rick. I changed the weight of mother to 0.60 Konieczny 2016 ...you had listed it as 2015, and i also modified the variety to "not listed". They are still not linking as related...i think there needs to be an entry made for the original. Up to you Chris...

Lol sorry about the exact facts on them. Hard to remember all those small weights.

i think it is important to set up the ability to link this line thru generations. I have had requests already for seeds from the hydro wixom slammer showdown. Those will be all f-2 generations. I am seeing some differences between the plants. It is looking like I will should be able to get seeds from each.

If you look closely at the megazac tomato, you can see that it had a small ribon vine stem too.that was why i crossed it and it was the only cross that i did outdoors.i crossed it september 28 and picked it around nov 16 thats why it was so small because it was grown in such cold weather.

Thank you bnot for taking care of that. I found that site very picky to how you add stuff but very useful none the less. I think that "Belmonte" was a default setting I over looked.

i am thinking that site might be connected to the RMGPG. I could be really wrong. Maybe we should try to contact them..and see if we can get it tweaked to make it more to the needs of tomato growers.

A couple years back a couple of us watermelon growers worked MANY hours to update and correct information on the sister link. If you start by correcting the older tomatoes first the new (corrected) data will import easier to the next generations. Occasionally it took a bit for the results to post and pull up correctly.

I just entered the first tomato probably of 2017. The 1.23 Borgers 2017. I am not going enter my tomatoes unless I am sending a seed to another grower. Then i will update the info so they can link to a known spot in the data base. I think this should become standard practice for any grower that is going to release a seed to another. It takes extra work to list it as selfed which is a good thing for the only true selfed is an indoor or a bagged outdoor. The other choices are where you can enter the info for a controlled cross and open. It also has the choice for "unknown" . I think this is could be used for any dirty pollinated tomato..since % chance of mixed is way above the 97% chance open.

I thought about doing some correction and entries for the original megazac and wixom-slammer, but I am waiting to see if the grower of these crosses will do it first.

Go ahead bnot, i was a little confused on how to do it and put it off untill i get the patience to do it later lol....(0: i couldn't figure out how to upload pictures yet?

I did a little bit of data entry - the wixom-slammer is listed as the 0.60 Konieczny 2016 . the megazac is listed as 1.20 Konieczny 2016. 3 of 4 of the parents for these two do not have link that can be attached to. I could link to the pollinator of the megazac..because i could figure out that 8.41 meant 8.41 MacCoy 2014.

Need to know what your 5.51 megamarv was grown from...and need info from porkchops for both parents of the wixom-slammer

pictures are easy to add...i added the pictures that you just put in your diary

it is working if I track backwards...i.e. by looking at the 1.23 Borgers 2017
but it is not working by listing progeny forward..need to figure why it doesn't work that way

I noticed that the 5.51 megamarv is listed incorrectly as the 5.54 megamarv in the site.

Porckchop 7.05 came from the 5.30 MacCoy(big zac)

Need to ask porkchop about the 5.75 domingo.
Porkchop has use both of his names at recording seeds. Porckchop and marley?
Need to see what name should be used?

2/12/2017 1:21:00 PM

Porkchop

Central NY

Porkchop should be used...already a marley here first...5.75 came from 4.55 wahl (2014 I think,maybe 2012)...Domingo variety

2/12/2017 2:42:14 PM

bnot

i am getting confused...was the 7.05 a porkchop or a marley..or are their two 7.05

the 4.55 Wahl 2012 is a definate datapoint.

what is the chance porkchop of your entering your 5.75 into the database...then can link the wixom slammer to that

It is listed a 7.05 marley but i think steve would prefer that it said 7.05 porkchop being that is what we know him as !!!

Also being that their are two marleys on this site changing the 7.05 marley to porckchop would help us to tell the two apart.

i know there is scott marley and steve marley...but these dual names for database is confusing. In the pumpkin world there are many growers of the same last name..john young, don young, ron wallace, doug wallace, quinn werner, joe werner and many many more

the idea of the database is for clear information..not confusion..wonder how many tomatoes grown from the 7.05 are not linked to it because of the dual names

Im sure not many !!! It's only a 2015 tomato and i think only 2 or 3 people ever requested one ? Its not like enyone ever liked the guy ??? LOL.... (0:
