I have 2-5 of each started and will plant the biggest. Started on 4-21 and will be in the ground the 2nd week of June. Currently in a greenhouse with additional timed light.
8.61 Southerland
8.41 MacCoy
7.19 LaRue
7.15 White
7.10 Foss
7.05 Porkchop
6.88 MacCoy
6.23 Konieczny Megazac (monster)
5.55 Caleb White
5.30 MacCoy
5.13 LaRue
5.11 Dunn (8.41 MacCoy)
4.69 Spaziani (7.05 Porkchop)
4.66 Spaziani (Russian Oxheart)
4.48 LaRue (7.10 Foss)
4.46 LaRue
4.30 Spaziani (Megadom)
4.25 LaRue
4.24 Spaziani (Wixom Slammer)
1.68 Spaziani BZ (Ribbon Vine)
Big Zac F7 (from Dunkels)
Big Zac (Totally Tomatoes)
MegaMutt! One from "D", one from "Z"

Out of all these starts, there are 4 that really stand
out as far as size and stem thickness. They are:

*Big Zac (from Totally Tomatoes, just one particular one)
*5.30 MacCoy
*4.30 Spaziani Megadom (The two I planted are 50% larger
in plant size and stem girth compared to all
other tomato starts. They are freaks! Of
course this means nothing at this stage of
game, just interesting.)
Keep posting in your diaries. Good luck!

Garden Rebel, you need to identify the variety of the seed in your naming. Are they all Bz or are you growing other varieties?

They are all BZ unless otherwise stated. Included are Chris Konieczny crosses (Megazac, Wixom Slammer, Megadom and MegaMutt)and Russian Oxheart.

You will end up with many many plants. I have a good idea of what you will be doing this summer. I will be mostly growing F8 and F9 Big Zacs which came through the Boudyo 5.07. I have one BZ that is an F8 which originated with Timm. I don't know how that will do but could grow a big one. I have not really been pressing this seed but will this year. I will be planting later than usual this year as I want warm nights when the blossoms open on the plants are closer to the ground, very first cluster if there is a big blossom. I am also growing some Delicious (Hunt Strain), a few MegaMarv, some crosses between Big Zac and MegaMarv and Big Zac and Delicious. These crosses are all F1. Plus some Domingo etc. I really need good weather this year. I am growing in a high tunnel and under a shade cloth trying to control more of the environment. Too much heat and tomatoes ripen earlier and smaller. Small I don't want.

This is the weekend for round one of tomato starting for me. This week will be starting 10 of 12 of the largest tomatoes ever grown, looking to collect the genetics from this batch. The next round will probably start the week after. That will be many of the 6 lbers. Sometime in June will be starting fall weighoff tomatoes. That group has yet to be determined.

If we are here for a thousand years no one ever will add the actual variety to the names of their tomatoes. It seems that it is unnatural to do so. 5 years from now only a few people will recall that tomatoes do have variety names and that these are the only real way to keep track of what is what and what we are growing.

...and it's Spaziani, not Spanzoni, and 4.69, not 4.68. Every 1/100 of a pound counts! My name has been butchered my whole life. Spaz is fine. Good luck from here on out! If NJ was closer to OR, I would supply you with many extras! The 1.68 was the generic BZ that had a big ribbon stem last year.
