I would be so upset if I came home and found a deer had taken a bite out of my 25 inch tomato. You are going to have to find something to keep them out of the maters. It looks like you still have a bunch of good ones growing. Thanks for posting the pictures in your with the DAP's. It really helps me to know where my growth is compared to yours. Looks like I will be chasing after your numbers in the megamutt contest instead wixoms 3.88. You should be at 4.5 with those 37 DAP numbers. Keep all those good ones out of the bellies of the deer.

Wow rick your megazac's look impressive. How do you get such a long DAP. With all that Heat you have had this summer ? Heat usually ripens them faster and you have DAP 47 ? I only can get that in my cold bacement were it is a Constant 66° not 90°-100° like you have.you should do a guess the weight before the deer get them ! Isn't today the start of deer poaching season ??? (0: good luck and grow a 6 lbs tomato.

Yes, it was upsetting. You guys are the only one's I can grieve with! The rest of the family here try to be sympathetic but just burst out in laughter. And my coworkers..just can never bring it up.

I accidently posted 2 of the same pictures of MMZ. The last photo was supposed to be of MMD at 24.25". Re-posted and it should be up soon. Yes, deer hunting starts next week. Complaisance is my enemy. I had deer repellent and a pretty good fence. I sprayed last month but should of kept on top of it. My fault and I learn.

Chris, with the heat I used all of my cotton wash cloths and drape them over the tomatoes. The sprinkler 1x/day during the hot spells keeps them wet and it evaporates. That is the theory anyway. So maybe it keeps them cooler?

25 inches should already have beaten it. Did you weigh it even with the bite out of it?

I have that bow, have that gun, but don't hunt. But if a fish ate it I would be out there 24/7 until I caught it!

Realizing that work is worth more than $'s, I can give you all some advice to keep deer away from your tomatoes. Two years in a row...at Mom's request, I have planted Weeping Japanese Maples down near the curve in the driveway. (Approx. $300 each year)!! Yesterday I found the new one chewed off by dear approx. 10" from the ground. All the beautiful red leaves are laying on the ground, it seems that they just like the bark? Peace, Wayne

That sucks Wayne! I know that some animals, especially horses, will eat bark for the hard to find minerals that hide out there. Maybe put a mineral block near your trees?

I don't hunt either i think that you can tell by the catch and release program that i have had the last several years.
