Is this when there is a a deformity early on like the plant is determinate right out of the gate? We’re seeing some of these but the majority are good. Do these prematurely determinate ones ever amount to anything?!

My guess is that nothing is happening after the cot leaves ? Determinate usually means that the plant doesn't grow after it puts out its flowers or fruit !!! So im guessing that the plants don't grow after they come up ???

All were planted at the same time. (March 22nd). I’m sure I’m a perfect world the “good” one could be twice as big as it is by now. oh well.

The plant on the right was in full sun all day today. No shade & 90+ degrees. I guess someone remembered to water them this morning.

I have never seen anything like that and since you had 3 of them it looks to be a genetic defect !I don't think that they Will ever amount to anything.

looks to me from the picture you are growing the nice plant in potting soil and the other "special" plants are in some sort of clay/grass/gravel mix ....might have something to do with it....

They all went from seedling mix to sifted dirt— which did end up clay heavy— then back to potting mix. I agree something like that could have been the issue but the others all were in 4” in plain old dirt too but they graduated from those and went back into potting mix... it’s just hard to tell. I’m going with it’s genetic or a seed defect specific to one seed. Or maybe I could just blame it on being downwind from a medical waste disposal facility.

I have had plants like that in the past that I tried grafting.
From the wound I created a new growing tip formed.
Take a clean razor and make a superficial cut in the stem below the last leaf.
I’ll betcha in 7-10 days you’ll have a new growth point there.
Of course it’s not worth doing unless it’s from a special seed.

Ok cool. I’ll let Anna know. Maybe she will post herself (as Sleeping Beauty) lol was asking this question on her behalf. The rest of hers look rather good overall I think she will do well... Be sure to tell her not to follow my advise. Lol. Good luck to your team this year.
