pc may be right plastic can cause problems alternative would be some other natural mulch like wood chips or an air/ water permeable weed fabric... If the plants dont like it get rid of it!

The real goal is to learn everyond wants to win but if you learn thats a guaranteed personal win.
Try half your plants one way and half another way and see if they respond...

Other than getting good germination rates my year has been nothing but a struggle. Keep at it and keep posting...

Its not plastic just weed fabric.

Its not plastic just weed fabric. Could the fabric cook roots?? Air and water goes through

Weed barrier only blocks weeds. No light passes through. It doesn't heat the soil much beyond the surface. I have great luck using Solar Mulch from Johnny's Seeds. Only certain light passes through that heats the soil. In Oregon it's only been in the 70's and 40's and helps heat the soil at the root level. Also retains some moisture. I used dark green last year. Trying red this year. Comes in 4' wide rolls. I just put it on yesterday. A month later than I should of. My plants are not as vigerous as a result. Nurseries use it. Check it out in Johnny's Seeds under Tools and Supply's-mulches and landscape fabric.
