I am considering using folic acid and humic acid both as a drench and as a foliar spray ingredient this year. The amounts to be used are quite variable. Some recommend a drench every 4 to 5 weeks with on average 2 teaspoons per gallon of water per plant and about the same if it is used in foliar form. Folic acid is a small molecule and easily enters through the stomato of the leaves. Humic acid is beloved by soil fungi. The other side of the coin is that they are quite costly. Have any of you used these in the past and seen any appreciable results?

I've used humid acid as a drench and foliage spray two years ago. I grew my largest tomatoes that year. I'm sure it didn't hurt the plants. But with my new soil and applying other products on my plants, I wouldn't be able to assure that humid acid made the difference in my gains. If I grow a PB this year I wouldn't know if it was my soil, products, seed choice, or weather. We are talking ounces.

Thanks Zeke, the article is really great but it does not tell you how much folic and humic acid to put into how much water or how often to use it. Or, at least, I could not find that information in the article.

I’ve considered both for soil drenches, my understanding being around their ability to chelate other elements - making some of those soil amends i’ve done from the soil test more ‘palatable’ for plants and therefore uptake.
Not tried it tho, and can’t comment on amounts. Not considered any use of it as a foliar previously - I’ll have to see how it can contributes here. What’s your thinking / findings re: foliar ?

I've been messing with this all winter. There was an earlier thread about Ca deficiencies growing in pots indoors and I can't find it. I've been adjusting my water pH to 6.3 - 6.5 and mixing 1 oz. of seaweed and Fa with 2.5 ozs. of Ha and watering once a week. If I can figure out how to put a pdf on my diary I'll put a tissue test there. Most nutrients were high and Ca was very high.

I started using amino acids recently and I'm a fan so far. I feel the availability is increased as my normal doses of nutrients started to fry my plants with no other changes. Still playing with dosage though, so can't help too much yet.
I've also been studying SST's to start trying. If you have not seen much about Sprouted Seed Teas, do a bit of reading on them, and it may provide another less expensive option than the more expensive acid additives. They work enzymatically to assist breakdown of nutrients and organic matter, and different seeds will offer a buffet of natural growth hormones. I feel this will be one of the new movements here once people start getting exposed to it.
General recipe is 2oz of sprouted seeds (1/4" rootlets) blended into solution and added to 5 gallons water for drench.

You might want to try Dunkels Tomato Turbo to get Fulvic acid along with amino acids. Also contains a bunch of other chelated minerals like: Calcium, Copper, Iron, Magnesium, Manganese, and Zinc. Plus Soluble kelp. Pre mixed ready to use just mix with water and spray. Can also be used as a drench if you want.

I use Fulvic for foliar, Humic for drench, in small amounts. Depending on your Humic product about 1/3 will remain in the soil for centuries. If you have high OM there is no need to spend your money on humic because its value will be greatly diminished.
