Any success in growing successive big ones on the same plant? My one big marley that I lost at 21" with rot is throwing new megas. Just wondering if it is standard procedure to pull the plant and start over, or if anyone 'reuses' them?

Some people pull them, others will try to do a “Round 2”.
If the plant is healthy I allow it to continue to grow & I see if it throws any remarkable megablooms.
If it does, it is Round 2.
I find that with cooler temperatures they tend to throw them.
But then it is problematic with a short remaining season.

With the longer season in N.C. you my have better luck than us in the north. If the older leaves are old and dieing back you may concider laying the plant down and putting compost over the old stem and growing new roots on the older stem. This may help the new sucker grow better. Just a thought. Its a judgment call on the health of your plant Currently.

Thanks. Time to charge the toothbrush! I know it stays warmer longer here but also the days are shorter so we'll see. Wixom I'll make you a deal that if I break 5 pounds I'll wear mc hammer pants to the big show. 6 pounds and I'll dance on stage.

Wolfpack, you are probably like me and won’t have a frost until around thanksgiving.
I had a nice one on a plant earlier this year that turned about 3 weeks early from the heat.
I almost pulled the plant afterwards, but now it’s throwing another nice mega.
With cooler weather and a pretty healthy plant,I’m totally going to try another one on the same plant.
Hopefully have a better result.

We have gotten 2 - 5#+ tomatoes off of one plant in the past. Our current plants in the greenhouse are now 8' tall & have some crazy looking megas on the upper trusses. Hopefully one of them will make it to maturity.
Good luck all.
