Anyone had success? Anyone going to transition a full size winter grow plant outdoors this year? It might be fun to have ripe tomatoes in late May?

I may I’m in the middle of a move. I definitely don’t want the new owners getting them, I’m toying with the idea of a greenhouse grow, controlling the environment so important. But the problem is controlling an indoor environment, when your at work.

I will try that with some hydro plants, just to see what happens
At the moment I cut the plants leaving just 6-8 inches of the main stem, and making it to sprout

Had some luck last year. Not for giant size but started some early plants that had green tomatoes already set when I moved them to the garden. They stalled some in the cooler temps but still ended up with decent sized eating tomatoes weeks earlier than the normal starts.

I have thought about it. Will not be this year. I was thinking about moving the hydro but pruning got so out of hand that it is not a good candidate. I have shut down all the grow lights except for one blue spectrum led over the carrot that will be transplanted outdoors. I am also letting the temp in the grow room drop into the lower 60's for that carrot. Time for me to save some electricity. This could change... I am getting tempted to start an indoor carrot in a 60 gallon coca pot to grow indoors until next winter though.

The coco would be hydroponic. I have toyed with ideas of how to try one in deep water without coming up with a fool proof method. I use net pots for tomatoes. That would not work for a carrot. The roots need a unhindered path to expand. The challenge is to hold the weight of the carrot by the neck as it expands thru all stages of size.

I can't comment on taking a full size winter grow outside, but eating tomatoes possible by end May with the right varieties.

Sown 28th Feb, a bush variety Maskotka I've had ripen by end of May in just an unheated greenhouse here in UK. Heat applied at germination stage.
