For many years there was a site named TomatoDepot.com If you try to go there now it is just some advertisements. All of the past forum posts, pictures and everything else are gone. Anyone know what happened?

I am not sure Marv...is this the site that would not let me join? I remember a few years ago..I tried to join a site that had a thread about giant tomatoes. I never did get approved to make any posts. I would have to look at past emails..I know you went to bat for me to try to get me approved.

You have GiantTomatoes.com completely under your control Marv now. You can fill any void that you see in the tomato world with it. I know you have thousands of followers. It somewhat sucks that you are somewhat internet naive. You have your site...growers, if you go there...It says " your portal is now under construction...tell don..he is lagging..it lost the picture of Marv's first book.

I have the utmost of faith in you Marv. You have so many decades of contact with movers and shakers of the tomato world. This is going to be good.

Don is working on it. The book is not yet done and so there really is nothing to put up. Patience. My part of the book is done. Only the pictures remain to finish the book. The site that would not let you in is Tomatoville.com Try again. There is a lot of good stuff there.

It looks to me like tomatodepot.com is now in the hands of an investor. Current owner is savvy investments from wyoming. The domain name was originally registered in 2008, but last update was in june of 2019. It is very possible the original founder of the domain did not renew for some reason. It might have been because of death. Reminds me, That I should make sure my daughter has access to my domain registrar if something should happen. When a site does not get renewed, the registrar will put the domain name up for auction.

Tomatodepot.com had value based on the amount of links and traffic that it generated. Putting ads up on a site that gets traffic means the invester can hold it for no cost. The content that was on TomatoDepot could be held in a different place than the registrar. That might still be contained in the host server. Would have to take a look at history of the site to see what name servers the site has used thru the years. I know that some hosting sites, will retain the web info for a few years. It would be very difficult for someone other than the original owner to get it, but in the case of death, the heirs should be able to access it.

The problem with interent knowledge...it can disappear with no trace.

Looking at info from the wyoming state office about savvy investments...their address is in cheyenne, wyoming. An address change in 2018 was signed by someone named Jewel Davis with a title of sole member.

Marv do you remember the name of the person that built tomatodepot.com.

I will look for it. Unfortunately I am not at home. I think the persons first name was Earl. He was in a relationship with Tatianna I believe. Not certain though. I will look. The site had a ton of information. About a year ago there was a disagreement between the person running it and the person actually owning it. The guy running it got booted.

Yes, it was Earl but I can’t remember his last name.
He was older & definitely had some attitude to him as we all do.
It was a nice site with some interesting members & smaller than Tomatoville.

Tomatoville wouldn't let me in either. I tried every way in the world to contact them. I couldn't even get a email to go through.

The owner seems to be some kind of head case. Terrified of spam bots or some such nonsense.

There is a lot of good information in the data base at Tomatoville. They are an unusual site. It is the only site I have ever been banned from and I am not yet certain why. After several years Carolyn Male was able to get me back in. She was very knowledgeable about tomatoes but unfortunately has passed away.

Guys I got on tomatodepot this morning and it seemed to be working okay. Not a lot of traffic but last post was I think 4/22/20.

I did not see a recent post from Earl Basset.

I just checked tomatodepot.com a minute ago...it still shows the ads that signify investor owned. Tomatoville still has the normal posts. I haven't tried to rejoin yet. I think you might be right about head case ozarkan.

thank you for an update email on your new site marv. I hope that you and Don can get done what you want. I know both of you are working very hard.If you can get it done....the tomato growers here are going to be in for a very pleasant surprise.

Thank you ozarkan..at least we now know the name of the person that was running tomatodepot... Earl Basset. Contact info would be the next question. If there has been investor-developer issues....the web info should be owned by the developer and secure on whatever host/server he was using. If the investor was financing the server it could be an issue.

If the current investor of the domain name tomatodepot.com is being difficult...I know of a site that might be able to offshoot it, keeping it live...using a subdomain name. Sorry Marv, I think subdomains are something you are not yet familiar with.

Marv, you have many assets that you do not know you have. You have so many decades of intimate contact with the tomato world. Your site will be the top.

Also I went to a website that I believe is owned by Earl, 45thparallelseeds.webs.com and it has prices listed for 2020 so it seems to be still up and going.

both of the sites you just listed ozarkan are subdomains. The actual domains are proboards.com and webs.com. The tomatodepot tag on the front is the subdomain.

If there has been a disagreement between the domain owner and the domain developer, i do not understand why the developer would not just pick a different name. I think that a name equivalent to tomatodepot could be registered for less than $10. GoDaddy lists the value of the domain name tomatodepot at $1300 based on the value of the words tomato and depot. I think it is high.

I will just wait for Marv's site

Please do not raise expectations. All the GiantTomato site will have initially is access to a book. It will take forever to make it into more than that.
