It is very very hot here. By midday the heat is intense and burning down on my tomato. I need morning and afternoon sun for sure but not the burning midday sun in late July and early August. I used an old umbrella for shade because I did not have the shade cloth I wanted to try. Maybe later. The idea needs work but is worth considering. I may go back to using cages for tomato support along with twine and tomato clips.

It’s a great idea. I currently use umbrellas, but you really need to be careful of strong winds. It can pull your plants over. I’m using stronger fiberglass poles this year. It can’t hurt for sure.

It’s not a problem I have all the time but I throw 50% shade netting over my greenhouse here during hot spells. I clip on/ off as needed

I’ve been using umbrellas and shade cloth for the last couple of years.
They work well, but as Rebel mentioned, you have to be careful in high winds.

I think they make a beanie with an umbrella on top as well Marv. It may be a little extra benefit when you are working in your patch.
