Hi my name is wide load ! My caretaker did support me with pantyhose ! But because my stem goes straight up then down into me I’m breaking off as I get wider ! Little less than half my stem connected now how much longer do I have before I lose weight ? I think I’m still growing for now ? Any thoughts before my owner puts me out of my misery ? I’m still nice and green ! Thanks wideload .

Dear wide load,

That is a shame. But what is done is done (do have stern words tho). What you’ll find is that the bits of you that have broken off will grow slower than those that are attached (but still grow). How those bits of you that are off the broken stem will also ripen first, and perhaps a bit earlier.

Here’s a pic of a fellow tomato who had a stem tear - although this was supported, so can happen there too: smaller growth in that segment, and it ripened first: http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=296957

Hey Porkchop how grows the garden ? Lots of beautiful stuff in your garden ! Yea u must have misunderstood , no split, it’s tearing right off at the base of the stem And tomato , Can see a little more white Under the stem everyday but heals to a tan or brown color ! Should be good if it stays dry out , hasn’t been a drop of rain. Also new growth on the 6.55 with a medium size mega about ready to bloom , but getting hot again this week sooo. Fingers crossed ! That could be for a late weighoff . Thanks

Hey saladdoug . yea all you said seems To be happening ,one side is now growing faster than the other ! Do we think as a whole tomato it will receive enough water to maintain its weight ? In 90+ degree weather , if not it will turn red , would that be correct ? Anyway I’m overwatering this plant just to make sure it gets enough water and nutrients ! also have a big wixom cross on this plant , with a kinked stem all the more reason why I overwater this plant ! Plenty of cal/mag too ! BTW luv your sunflower that’s awesome, it’s in the atmosphere ! And your 5 gallon bucket tomato wow , good luck !

It’ll grow and increase weight, but don’t over water - that in itself will stop nutrients and increase the chance of BER. Roots need air too.

At 90 it’ll grow. At 96 photosynthesis will stop.

Thanks for good wishes on sunflower, it was a fun grow. Look fwd to bring the 5 gallon Tom to the scales

This plant we’re talking about is my Canadian ! No secrets here wideload is about 3.5-4 pounds ! Need 3.6 to be a new Pb for me on this plant ! Also have a 3.5-4 mater on the 6.23 konieczny! Turning Color now be hitting the scale end of week maybe ? Anyway hopefully one of them go just over 4 lbs to be my new Pb ! And looking through your diary I really like the stakes at the four corners of containers ! I may try that next year , keep my maters off the stakes .
