First time grower. Was wondering how soon before putting plants outside after last frost do you start to germinate seed. Also fertilizer load for on plant in a container is needed. Any info would be great. Thanx.

For giants, don't bother planting till at least mid may. I did may 15th, and had them ripe by mid September. For fert, no high K, or it will ripen quickly, and keep your numbers balanced.

Who is saying K leads to ripening? Just wondering.

I had good luck starting seeds March 21 generally speaking they can be planted outside in May here. Our last frost varies it could be January or it could be June. I've seen both. Protecting the plants with a cover of some sort might worthwhile. This will allow an earlier start.

No cold wet feet...Colorado may have special rules for starting times..check with the local growers. I think pumpkinkin grower means no high bloom formulas, but that would depend where your existing soil numbers are at. Big take away,...?...don’t start too early without protection and warm soil. Good luck...and stick around for the tomato contests coming this spring !!

I normally start in mid-late April for weigh-o-offs and plant in mid-late may in 30 gallon pots. My 2.22 lbs tomato was actually grown on a 15 gallon pot and I never fertilized.
