I really wanted the first time group to be first time ever growing lopes,I thank you handy for being truthfull and 96 is a long time but im going to say no,first time means neaver grown lopes before!your still in the contest but your just not a in first time growers group, its not a big deal it just gives the first timers prizes, i really hate it but to keep everthing as simple as we can for the first time group it means never grown a cantaloup. treetop

I am certainly claiming the "no seeds from Marty Schnicker rule" Oops, sorry, givin up 10 #'s I guess...but check this out!!! marty grew 49 & 50 same year from some seed that came from the world record!!!!! 64. somethin from Alaska Robb seed!!! Hopefully Marty will tell us the true genetic story, and I get my 10#'s back for bein a good guy!!! Peace, Wayne
PS...I just ordered 2 64.8 Robb seeds...only $10 each!! LOL

Just remember that nature will be your friend or foe. I grew the 64.8 Robb in 06. 2 plants The plants grew fine and set several fruit but not very good shape, small on the stem side and bigger on the blossom side. They grew several 17-25 pounders but nothing huge. The next year I planted 2 seeds of the 25 pounder one plant in a raised bed and set only one fruit on it. The other plant went wild and set one on early and then several a couple weeks later.I measured the single melon and babied the plant and when the melon started to turn a little yellow I picked it and weighed 49 pounds. Around a week later I saw one turning on the other plant but it was hidden some by all the vines. I picked it and lifted it and I thought wow this one seems heavier and weighed it at work on a certified scale and weighed 50.2 pounds. Both were perfect shape and the 49 pounder was a couple inches bigger OTT but the 50.2 weighed more.Thicker blossom end.The 49 pound plant had it made watered most every day but the other plant was on its own and produced several 35 pounders also. That was the last really good weather year I can remember for here so maybe this year will be good.
