This is my first year growing Lopes and I have a few questions I'd like to ask for your help with a few questions:
1) Does the fruit normally need to be shaded from the sun like pumpkins do?
2) What are the signs to look for that will indicate the lope is ready to be picked and weighed? Color? Full netting?
3) Is it good to stop vine growth so as to encourage maximum growth of the fruit, similar to what is done with pumpkins?
Thanks!

1. Yes 2. Yellowing. Be prepared to harvest very very soon. 3. So far results are inconclusive.

Agree with Dave on all, on #3) I like to think yes, my lopes have gotten bigger since I started pruning, but don't know if thats one of the reasons why, too many variables. I prune mine to less than 200 sqft. I don't think you need one any bigger if your growing one or two, because even one that size can grow several big ones.

When ready it will also have a strong ripe smell. You could tell mine were ready from 100 ft away !
