First year going for size. Do you let a few grow per plant or do you keep culling down to 1 after pollinations like AG's?

My first year with these as well. From what I understand, you grow two to reduce splitting.

I think leaving one would be better. Just what I do...

Reading through the back pages is where I think I got the two per plant. I believe Jake mentioned growing this way to avoid splitting. His heat and humidity is a lot worse than ours though. How is Fuquay Harry ? Been about 20 years since I last went through.

Andrew, how big are they? I hear Danny might want to borrow my pumpkin lifting harness. if you don't need a harness, you might want to just pick the last off also..lol

From the beginning I allow only one to set, and tried to keep the water consistence and so far they been holding. My tomato split when they get too much water especially late in the season. I understand culling 4-2-1. That helps the plant to build up then slowly redirect growth down to one without a "rush".

Last year was my first year growing lopes and I would set 2 per plant and let them grow for a week them cull the slower growing lope. I grew a 43.5 lb lope on my first try and I really enjoyed growing them. They grow fast and like to split! They can be green first thing in the morning and file by that evening if it is hot. When they do turn they will fit and split quickly though!

You take the Bay Bridge tunnel across the Chesapeake. I’m about an hour north of her. I was born and raised in Rocky Mount. Met my wife in college, and she brought me back to the eastern shore. That’s where my name came from: Eastern Shore heel !

Thanks Danny. Does it normally take a while to see females ? I’ve got a good size plant. 10 x12. Nothing but males. Have tried bloom booster, Will hit again this weekend.

I grow one cantaloupe per plant and have had no splitting issues. I pulled my best cantaloupe today because of damage due to rabbit nibblings that didn't dry and heal over. The OTT measurements totaled 141.5 inches. Even though it was damaged, I weighed it at the Hope, AR post office to get an accurate weight. It weighed 66 pounds and 13.8 ounces on the postal scales.

I grow 1 per plant, 3rd year for them, yes I blow a lot up but I push hard too... The year I grew 53.4 lbs I popped 4 and it was the only one to hold up
