Sunflowers do not like to be transplanted. If the ground is unthawed. I would place them out side. Put an plastic milk carton with the bottom cut off then take the top off over for a mini-greenhouse.

If my last message does not make any sense. Here is what I was trying to explain. Take a milk carton cut the bottom off it. Then place it over the plant. Then remove the screw on top to provide ventilation.

Why do most people say unthawed? Does that mean to refreeze?
Chuckle chuckle, 6 out of ten will say unthawed as opposed to thawed.

Mine were started inside and transplanted with no problems what so ever, they are just over 2 feet tall and getting bigger by the day.

I did them both ways. The inside started ones are caught and passed by the direct seeded sunflowers. However I lost no inside started plants. Some of my outside direct seeded plants were eaten or cut by something. They were of course soft and juicy for a few days after emergence.

So Doc the real question is was your soil thawed or unthawed?
