Now if you remove the head from a giant sunflower will it continue to grow taller since it is not using energy to produce a head?

I thought the head was the growth point? I figure that once it sets a head, that's it. You might get side growth, if the variety is prone to do that.

I did an experement this yr. I removed the head when it was the size of a quarter, it regrew the head about 14inches higher and the head looks smallerand the stalk thinner than it should be.

Hi there, I'm looking for the name or email address of a sunflower and large veggie grower named "sunflower_info". I bought long gourd seeds from him on eBay, but lost the info I had. Wanting to give him credit for the long gourds I am growing this season. Found his pic here.

BTW, I've grown some pretty large sunflowers, too, but not this year due to broken bones. Just obcessed with the long gourds now, and posted to a board here called growing long gourds. Do any of you grow them, too???

PS: I have a large pumpkin growing son. Both the pumpkins and he are large!!! He goes by Shrumpkin on Big Pumpkin site.
