I have measure from the ground level to tip of the corn tassle and it is 14 feet! From the ground to top of sunflower which is 14 ft 3 inches! Is that the way they are measured in competition?

Any one of you have pink or black mold? I do and the flys and ants seem to love it. Looked online but now answers to what it is. I just might cut it down to get rid of it. Too bad since I do have corn comming on it but worried about eating it. Danielle

I'm curious with the giant corn...do you remove the corn cobs, to put energy into the rest of the plant?

Does anyone know how the corn and sunflowers are measured in competition? I appreciate others having questions about thier corn or sunflowers but....I really want to know how the corn and sunflowers are measured and please do not say with a measuring tape!

Anyone have an answer for m3f2? Maybe too many questions here are detracting from an answer. Sorry.

If anyone is interested....you dig out the root ball and there will be stalk about 6 to 7 inches under the soil! Then you trim off the roots after washing away the dirt! Measurement is from lowest part of the stalk to top edge of the sunflower! Mine was 15' 7" and took first place. My wife took second at 14' 4" and there were 10 entries!

Same thing on corn. Top of Tassle to lowest part of stalk!
I also had first place corn at 13' 6" and longest ear of corn at 9 1/2 "
