Every growing season I learn a something new from the garden! As a confessed cheapskate I love plants that I can collect seed for future gardening. i plant every variety of sunflower I come across during spring fever. The expensive colored varieties are collected during the fall dried labeled and saved with the boxes of other seeds yurning to be planted. Expecting a red sunflower to produce red is doubtful since bees like a buffett as much as I do. I always try to grow the previous contest winner but suggest buying a pack of manmouth greystripe that is certified? DBH

I use a big ladder,LOL, bag em when they are getting ready to flower/blossom, bag another if I want to cross!!! Shake, or scrape pollen from bag 2 , onto a paper plate, remove bag from plant 1, dust flower 1 w/ pollen from flower 2, then replace bag. PS... I think they will self!!! Peace, Wayne PS...Not ziplock baggies, but very fine mesh bags!!!
