How in the heck does someone transport and tall corn stalk? The truck bed is only 8 feet long. Any Ideas?

I use two white plastic drain pipes screwed or taped together in the middle. They are cheap, strong and do the trick. Each length is 10' long. You have to snap off most of the leaves as the inside diameter is only 4 1/2" or so.

Cut a notch in the corn stalk and then carefully bend the stalk. At the weigh off, tape it using clear tape.

I've transported mine by using "zip ties" to secure the stalk to a long board. This year I was short on time, so we just stuck the root end of the stalk up on the dash board of our SUV and the tassel end was sticking out the back hatch, while using piled up blankets to support the stalk.

20' section of 10" drain pipe...stick corn in from bottom and pull gently down the 20' lenghth of pipe...buy caps for 10" pipe & duck tape to completed cylinder! Useing rest of the role of duck tape to attach pipe to truck!!! A couple yellow flags might be needed at each end!!! LOL!!! Serious, Invention is the Mother of Adventure!!! Peace, Wayne

I tie the root end to the mirror on the passenger side of the truck. The tassel end heads out toward the bed of the truck. and is strapped to some home made sides that fit into the stake pockets. That way a lot less is hanging out the back of the truck. Only hang up is that you can't open the passenger side door. I used to use rebar in the middle and so forth to makes sure they don't break. Now I just use a couple slightly smaller stalks and tie them together. These techniques work fine for me. Keep in mind I am not growing 20+ footers either.

PW, Sitting around 21'+- right now. Goal was 20 so that is surpassed. Will be cut and measured Saturday for our county fair. Still hasn't tasselled, so we will see what final height is then.

Lew D, prbly a lot of folks are wondering what seed you planted, cause in recent memory 21'/ without tassles would add at least a foot of more, and a couple weeks and I could see 25'er or more when done!!! BWF on coming Sat. We will measure yer 27'er...Officially!!! LOL C'mon down!!! Peace, Wayne

Since I started this thread I guess I need to say thanks to all the great advise on transporting tall corn, but it was either deer or racoons made short time with my tall corn. Dang it anyways!

PW Sorry I can't make it to BWF. I am taking entries to another county fair on Saturday. I did cut first stalk and it measured 22' 7". To produce seeds in Northern Ohio, I need to be in tassel by Sept. 1. Variety is Tehua...
