Manu, If you didn't already know, keep pulling the ears off if you want it to get tall!

OK. Dumb question coming. If all the ears are puled off to get giant Corn taller, then do we harvest no edible Corn from giant Corn? Or do you let ears form again later when a certain height is reached?

Steve,
All you do is wait until the plant is around 50', then let it set corn! Didn't you know that a plant's whole life motive is to produce seed? Once viable seed is produced the plant shuts down growth! (Also, giant corn is not very edible!)

A few more dumb questions: What variety/type of corn is the best to grow "tall corn"? Do you grow it in rows or is best to grow "individual" plants? Any good advice in growing a really tall stalk (other than good soil, good weather, good luck and pull the ears off)? Where can you get seed? Thanks Wayne

Ok Kilr,I should reach 50'by the competition Oct4th.That should produce ears around 3'to 4'right?Should feed 10people per cob,5 on either side right?

My Corn now is about maxed out it,s between 12 and 13' on most, not nearly as tall as two years ago when i got a few up to the 18' mark, must be the seeds?plenty of nitro in the soil, but hey its for show anyways, looks great tied to the light post out front come oct.FYI i came across an article the corn cob,(Tall or mexican white) not sure! think its the same, the cob was 2' long and sported some 8000 kernals,i'd love to dig my teeth into that if i owned a pot big enough to cook it!!

Wango ,its" Mexican white" you leave the ears on,give extra nitrogin when planting and mid summer,P&P seed on the net sells it ,but its expensive i think ray wants like 2.50 a kernal,if you post here in the fall i know theres a few guys in Canada theat grow and would more likely then not send you some seed, tastes like bland dull corn(not good) but if you want full cobs you should plant it in rows 1' to 15" apart and more then 3 rows.I grow a single row ,but i dont eat it so i dont care if it pollinates good.Hope this helped.John

Interesting. Yes that stands to reason the seed thing influence on growth. Just never knew folks compete in corn height competition. I've been city dwelling too long! LOL
