I grow giant corn as a windbreak for my pumpkin plants and my neighbors find it almost as impressive as the pumpkins. I was wondering if anyone has seen giant cornstalks at the weighoffs? Amy

Yep! In the PNW we have a tallest corn catagorey at our GPC pumpkin weigh-off. Brett Bester wins it every year! You know him as the "Pumpkin Guru on the mallorn list! Gophergirl Rochester,Washington

I would love some of those giant corn seeds for next year. Does anyone know where I can find them? I planted some non-giant corn this year. Right now it is about 12 inches high.

Ken, I believe Brett Hester sells tall corn seed. For a wind break here on the praire that we live on I planted a 100 ft double row of Mammoth Sunflowers, only 6 inch tall at this point. They are located on the side of the patch that most of our prevailing winds come from. Not doing me any good right now but should be a nice back ground for the patch picture later in the summer. Summer temps and lots of sun has finally arived here in the PNW. Yipee! The vines are gonna love it! Gophergirl Rochester, Washington

Ken D. I got my giant corn from Henry Fields catalog. Try some next year. It is really neat stuff. I plant about 3 rows for a windbreak. Last year I entered a 17 foot stalk at The Bloomsburg Fair in PA( I think its one of our largest fairs.)Tony Ciliberto takes a pumpkin there. Any way I entered the corn in the vegetable freak section and won the blue ribbon. The newspaper even wrote a little article about it. It was quite embarassing but fun. If you do get some seeds this year I think you should try a little bit It should have time to do well. Amy
