For corn for me, Tehua, although a slower starter, seems to end up the tallest and thickest stem. Haven't tried Montana yet. I've also contacted Jason Karl, but as others noted here, he seems reluctant to get involved with any of us, he seems to be interested in experimenting for commercial crop production more than competition. He is doing something I also have been trying, crossing races and strains of tropical maize. Apparently he thinks that tropical maize grows much taller when brought up north due to longer daylength... taller than they ever do down in South America. He thinks daylength (or night length) is a prime determining factor as to how tall they get. He is also crossing races and strains, which is what I'm trying to do as well, but make the seeds available to other growers like ourselves. Virtually all of the seeds that anyone here has planted are probably directly from seed banks, (unless there are others breeding/crossing these?), because of the time it takes to get seed from most. (150 days and more). I have no Tehua left, but am looking to find more if anyone has any leads? There seem to be various strains, but not sure which is better, or of Tehua was the one Jason grew the record with or not. Anyone have any more info on that?

I live in Moscow,Idaho way north and I am growing jala landrace. might be breaking some world records this year. mine is growing about a foot a week ;)
HINT* what to do if your running out of seeds because you cant get it to tassle: pour 99% grade Benzylaminopurine in to the soil one time at huge amounts. and you should be good to go. =)
Benzylaminopurine at small amounts it helps the corn grow extremely fast better retention in water and nutrients with a better root mass. but at high amounts it can force any plant to flower and bud. that's the trick to getting more corn seeds on variety's that don't normally tassle in time.
