awesome, im sure everyone in NZ is looking forward to seeing the stages. you do realize that you are the man in NZ to beat, and we will pick your brains and look at your pictures to do it. :-)....... may i ask.. do you use any of those "how to grow a giant pumpkin" books written by the top growers in the states? i have been thinking about buying one... considering all the time and effort we put into our hobby....

Ivo, getting back to your post, Robbie Dorresteyn is the man to beat he has the record. Does anyone know how he is going this year?

hi AB, have never heard anything about Robbie,is his bigger than yours? but its seems from the last few posts i will need to invest in a book or 2. Pepon, Sam is a cool guy and has done alot for big pumpkins in NZ..... if your there Sam.... do you know Robbie?
ps... i do have an agenda... growing a one ton pumpkin.
unfortunately i still have a few things to learn, but will share my mishaps with all you guys.... i think the mishaps helps folks better understand problems and issues if they can see photos of problems or potential problems and compare that with their own patches..... instead of just seeing the final pictures of 1500lbers and not realizing the effort or "growmanship" that went into their achievement. which also comes back to the books.... i thought i could do without them.... up to a point yes.... but there is a big difference between 300 odd kgs and 700, 800, 900, 1000kgs! and the effort is just the same... but the years of experience just cant be all gleaned from a website.... IMHO.
I can just see it now..... the mrs asks..... what you reading honey?..... ummmmmm

Hi macivo, the books are great, and Don Langavine is a great guy, and the books are great, definitely check them out.
Check out http://www.hollandsgiants.com/ they can combine everything you buy and do a good rate on shipping, which is one of the dumb things about buying from the states.
I'm not really sure what the comment was about related to me?? Everyone knows how to get hold of me, and I am open about everything??
Robbie Dorresteyn does hold the current NZ record, he is based in Taupo, and doesn't really have an internet connection and keeps to himself a bit, he grows his pumpkins in a big greenhouse with a huge water supply for them.
I hear from him around this time usually, especially if he has something big growing.
Look forward to see how everyone goes this season.

I just got hold of Robbie, he has sold his house, is currently renting, and will be buying a new place later this year, due to all of that, he isn't growing anything at all for this season.
