What do y'all grow for selling type decorative carving pumpkins. I have grown Howden and Connecticut field in the last few years. I do not like the shape/color, etc of CF and Howden has done ok, but still looking to improve. I have been looking at Wolf---any suggestions for other varietied, experience with Wolf?

Depends on how many you are planting..Rupp seeds has excellent varities. Charisma, Phat Jack, any hybrids that are powdery mildew resistant will pay you back in the end

Rupp *is* a great place to get seed. Hazzards Seeds (online only) is another one, they have a flat shipping fee and a saveable shopping cart.

I have always thought for the number of us that grow/grew jack o lanterns we should co op and purchase seeds..The savings would be worth the effort if i was still growing.

I use Harris seeds (great people!!), Siegers seeds (the rep. lives nearby) and Rupp - they have all the varieties of field pumpkins you could ask for. Harris sells Apollo (18-30 lb. which worked well for me last year). I grow over 20 varieties on 15 acres.
big bear - I have gone to mostly hybrid seeds with pm resistance. I no longer grow Howden or cf - I like the large handles of the new varieties.
Linus - you have a point about all of us purchasing seeds together although the shipping costs would hurt. I have never tried Charisma - the handle looks small.

have grown pumpkins for 20 years and the pmr varieties are what do the best for our farm. Harris seed, Rispen seed, Seigers Seed, Rupp seed and Seedwayseed are all great companies to deal with. Have grown the variety Wolf for about five years and our customers love them. They have the biggest stems out there and depending on rain and planting space is going to give you the size or not Wolf has a very aggressive vine and needs a lot of room also has a 120 day growing period. Aladin, Gladiator, Magic Lantern, Gold Medallion, and Gold Medal are some seed to try
