Hello,
Our field pumpkin plants are up and doing extremely well, but today I found lots of borer eggs on them. So far none hatched, and I am picking them off; however, are there any suggestions about what else to do to combat borers? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I had pretty good success with Borer traps (much like the japanese beetle traps you may be familiar with?) last season.Some would argue against them. Check out the Extreme Pumpkin Store for availability. Good luck!

Yes, try Toms vine borer traps,Extreme Pumpkin Store they work great.
You can add to this by putting down Bayer tree & shrub also put down Bater season long grub control, they both have Merit in them.

Spray a contact insecticide if you have eggs...Crush the with your fingers if you see them

borer eggs are usually laid singularly if they are in clusters they are more likely squash bugs.

I agree with The Borer, you won't find lots of SVB eggs, you most likely have a Squash Bug infestation. If you choose to remove them by hand, make sure you remove them from the patch, even the ones you might crush. I removed several eggs last year and put them in a container of pure bleach....they hatched....

thanks, everyone! been spraying and crushing eggs; trying fine netting over the smaller plants to protect them, and have ordered recommended traps. Egg laying seems to have stopped in the last few days, but we usually have several waves of them before the season's over.should have first male flowers in the next few days
