I just loaded my last trailer load of pumpkins and wondering what to do with the vines on my half acre plot. Is it best to mow them up and incorporate them into the soil or should I remove them from the plot completely?
This is my first year growing so I made it this far with a good crop, now to get ready to do it better next year!
Thanks, Matt

It's best to remove them and rotate 3-4 different areas if you have room.

I usually pull vines in the fall. This year, recovering from knee replacement, I am going to leave them on the patch along with the weeds and leaves that blow into the patch. In the spring they will be dry and I will burn them. Use fire to kill off pathogens. If you till them into the soil, you are just incorporating diseases. And rotation of planting areas helps with any crop.
