I am a first time giant pumpkin grower with a giant in my garden. Does any one have any tips or instructions on making a ring lift harness type of apparatus? Any instruction or leads would be very appreciated.
Thanks!

i googled giant pumpkin ring, then sling, and liked this one that had several ideas/options/ideas for a starting-out grower; i personally am very cheap and hate that something can become so expensive that you'd have to WIN at a weighoff to offset the cost of a thing used to LIFT it with; but, to each his own! anyway, back when they were a good deal at about $100 i bought one and then mercifully sold it to a pumpkin merchant that was using strictly manpower to move them---then, when i went to buy another?, the price had shot up $29.95, and they've become more diverse and costly since then;

mine was the same as the one with the long straps hanging down.

also, some funny reading from the good lo' days on BP:

and, last, but NOT least:

http://www.pandpseed.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=pandpseed&Product_Code=01_GPT_5&Category_Code=supplies

i just measured mine from about 2002 and was surprised to find that it measures 56.5" from side to side---so, i'm not sure if it was a 4' x 4' and went a little over or a 5' x 5' that went a little small...P and P would have made it a little BIGGER than shown, i am sure!
for the $10 difference, get the 5' x 5'; you do NOT wanna move an 800-pound+ pumpkin without a tractor-powered pumpkin lifter, yes, i know, that's what you initially asked for, but unless you have an 800-pounder TODAY, you WILL need a pumpkin lifting tarp at some point in the future, i promise.

i hope this all helps you----eg
