If we could prolong the active 'green' life of the pumpkin plant, rather than allow it to degenerate into old age, then it will be able to photosynthesise for longer - and make a bigger pumpkin.
But how do we delay senescence - cytokinin application might work?

I am no expert but plants apparently suffer oxidation and free radicals like we do. All I know is there are some metals and enzymes that help protect the plant while other factors (heat, uv
light and other metals (aluminum?) contribute to the demise.

Last year I sprayed Cytokinin/ga3 mix on a plant and it rained same day, the pumpkin popped open...maybe I sprayed too much.

Gerald, looks like you need a free radicle scavenger, perhaps Super Oxide-Dismutase (SOD). Its found in Maple Bud Sryup.
