The Kentucky State Fair is having a giant pumpkin contest!
The winner, if over 1000 pounds, can win a penny per pound!!!
Weigh off will be Friday, Aug 20. Entries come in from 7 am until 9 am with the weighing to start at 11:30 am. We'll be in the tented area, just off to the side of the West Lobby of the fair grounds.
If you are interested at all, the deadline for your written entry is July 1. Info is available at http://www.kystatefair.org/entries/entering.aspx
We're still finalizing the rest of the rules and details, but what was published in the premium book is below under Division 2403 Class 104 http://www.kystatefair.org/entries/premiumbook/vegmelons.pdf

DIVISION 2403 LARGEST VEGETABLE BY WEIGHT 1. The same rules as listed for open classes apply to this division. 2. Exhibit must be sound. No visible cracks, wounds, holes, mold, disease or spoilage. 3. No suckers, wrapper leaves, stems or extra foliage. 4. No grossly over mature exhibits. Exhibit must be of good, marketable quality. Superintendent/Judge reserve the right to remove any items on exhibit deemed unwholesome or not in good taste. 5. Rules also apply for Junior and Senior strictly weight classes.
104 Largest pumpkin, any variety including squash type.......................................................... $50 $40 $30 $20 * For largest pumpkin exhibitors, more information regarding contest specifications, including dates and times for judging and weighing will be mailed and/or posted at www.kystatefair.org by July 15th
NEW: The exhibitor of the largest pumpkin weighing over 1,000 lbs. will win $1/lb for the weight of the pumpkin. This award applies to pumpkins weighing 1,000 lbs. and above ONLY.
