Want to try a different weigh-off this year?
Located in beautiful New Bremen, Ohio our event is along the banks of the Miami-Erie Canal. This is not weigh-off, but a festival created by giant pumpkin growers for giant pumpkin growers.
This year’s New Bremen Giant Pumpkin Growers have been working hard for over a year planning this year’s New Bremen Pumpkinfest. As many of you know, we currently own the world record for the largest pumpkin pie which was baked in 2005. Our current stands 12’ diameter and weighed 2,020 lbs.
On Sept 25th this year, will attempt to shatter our record this with a 20’ diameter pumpkin pie. Construction of the pan pie and rack has been huge challenge by the shear size of project. Rack is fabricated with 3” square tubing and the pan using food-grade aluminum.
The only way to bake a pie this big is to build our own oven. Our 25' oven will be built beginning on Sept 1 by over 1,200 cement blocks, using a convection style design.
Special gas burners will be used and will be controlled by our heating software created to control oven temperatures. Also this software will monitor pie filling temperatures at various areas in pie by using food-grade thermocouples, which currently being handmade for this event.
We can go on with more details, but wanted to give some insight on how complex and challenge this project is.
