Before I start from scratch, does anyone have a fairly complete comprehensive plan/outline/proposal to approach businesses/groups/etc... for starting a weigh-off? If you do and are willing to share please email me. TY John cornhusk@mwt.net

John, first of all...best of luck to you!!! 1st approaching folks for donating prize money, imho, is sorta like cold calling to try and sell stuff...it will be tough. 2nd, Do you have a site, for this weighoff? I think site will be important, and when the KPM 1st started, our site owner, donated a lil seed money for prize structure (not a lot, but it sure helped). 3rd, start now recruiting volunteers that you can count on to help w/ all the work, cause there is a bunch to do, to put on a weighoff!!! Hope you find all the help, and answers you need!!! Peace, Wayne

if i were starting a new club and or weigh-off site id
first look to local fairs in the area to see if one of the fair schedules fits into our time frame.if so start there.
failing at that id look to local businesses that would work well with pumpkins example --local greenhouses or garden centers
failing that id go to any business that has ample parking and soace for the event. like a large market or walmart type store. talk to your town council as well. they may like the publicity for their town?
prize money ,etc, can be collected in may ways. club dues, auctions, sponsor fees, advertizement fees at the weigh-off, etc.
its not easy but we all started out the same as you are attempting today. i remember when gary grande (wix) was starting the colorado giant pumpkin growers club and weighoff. he had nothing but a dream and look where they are today. best of luck
