2015 SOGPG Prize List
Giant Pumpkins
1st place: $4,000.00 – If the site record of 2008 pounds is broken, an additional $1,000.00 will apply. 2nd place: $2,000.00 3rd place: $1,500.00 4th place: $1,000.00 5th place: $750.00 6th through 10th place: $500.00 11th through 15th place: $400.00 16th through 20th place: $300.00 Howard Dill Award: $500.00 SOGPG Membership Drive competition seeds: 2008 Neptune, 1964 Liggett, 1844 Rose, and 1585.5 Werner. A $300.00 bonus will apply to any pumpkin grown from either of these seeds, weighed at Operation Pumpkin, and the seed received as part of our membership drive competition. See our website for details. World Record: For anyone weighing a pumpkin at Operation Pumpkin which breaks the world record of 2323 pounds, a $1000.00 bonus will apply.
Giant Watermelons
1st place: $1,000.00 – If the world record of 350.5 pounds is broken, an additional $500.00 will apply. If the state record of 296.5 pounds is broken, an additional $250.00 will apply. 2nd place: $500.00 3rd place: $250.00 4th place: $150.00 5th place: $100.00 6th place: $75.00 7th place: $55.00 8th place: $45.00 9th place: $35.00 10th place: $25.00

Always the first Friday and Saturday in October. Giant pumpkins on October 2nd and all others on the 3rd.

I see your point Jamie, but a grand for the largest melon is still a hefty prize in the melon world and is unmatched anywhere else, just going to show you the SOGPG's commitment to the growers at a festival geared around giant pumpkins.
