Joined the giant bushel gourd growing group of World Wide Giant Growers this year and had some good looking plants going. two 279.5 English, a 187 Ciesielski, a 117.5 Sheldon, and a 173 McKruger Kettle gourd. This morning they were all dug up and dead even though they were inside half barrels. Had to be raccoons wanting to dig in the moist dirt. Nothing eaten on the plants, just looked like hogs had been rooting in the dirt.

Sorry to hear about your plants. If it is any consolation I don't think it is too late to throw in some more seed. I just direct seeded some more bushel gourds this morning.

No fish meal. Maybe the moisture attracted grubs since it had not rained in two weeks and they had been watered.

It is not to late to start again. I have some 279 English X Self seeds I can send you if you want. The fruit started bleeding out the blossom end at day 18, split at day 20 and stopped growing at day 30. 200 est. weight. The fruit I am sure could have benefited from some calcium supplement which I did not provide.
