I'm guessing the system for entry on there is not updated maybe? The bushel gourd chart Steve Connolly made, 188 ott on his chart is 169 lbs. so the first one is pretty close to that, not sure what happened on the second its really light either way.

Better but still needs some work. Only had about 100 growers provide OTT vs. weight to work with. Lets get more data, this Fall. 4 entries shown so far on BP have used the Old Watermelon chart. Weight(lbs)...% to old Chart...% to new chart 157..............-16%..............-7% 131..............-31%..............-23% 120..............-14%..............-1.6% 89...............-23%..............-6%

I'll email our GPC Rep to see if we can fix this oversight and switch to the new Chart for this years results With more data next year we should get even better % to chart results with this new GPC fruit.

So here's a important question about Ott. How should it be measured? Blossom end down or blossom end out (like on it's side)? I know you can come up with different otts each way

So maybe weigh off sites should put an asterisk if they are blossom down to see if that really matters. They definitely need to get OTTs of every Gourd recorded so a more accurate chart can be made.

The more data we get the better the new chart will be. By all means please include measurements with your entries. Especially circumference as Guiness requires that for their submissions. Steve is doing an excellent job updating the chart and it will get better as time goes on. Good luck everyone!

I don’t think that 157 is a Gourd, it seems to be a watermelon and I think his watermelon is a Gourd.

So what are we thinking is the best way to measure ott? on side or blossom end down?

I think on the side is best.

What I meant above is that the 157 vial is a watermelon and should be switched with the 180 vial which is a Gourd. That 180 appears to be heavy to chart. I’m not sure who is in charge of changing this.

The GPC is still using the watermelon chart when giving estimates on bushel gourds. I hope they are able to change it to the new BG chart so we can all get a better idea on heavy vs light seeds.
